Foreword The year 2016 is a special year for the Jesuits. Fr. Arturo Sosa
was elected Father General in October to lead the Society
of Jesus. The Jesuit General Congregation 36 confirmed
the continuing renewal and restructuring of our community

and mission. 3 December marks the 90th anniversary of the
Superior of arrival of Jesuits in Hong Kong and the beginning of their
Hong Kong Matteo Ricci Community evangelization and missions in the city. Travelling thousands
of miles from home, the Irish Jesuits came here armed with

only loving hearts to spread the Good News. On the Feast of
St. Francis Xavier, they landed on the Pearl of the Orient and
began to write chapter after chapter of thrilling stories about
educating the locals and the salvation of their souls.

Special thanks are given to Mr. Nicholas Tsui for his generosity
and efforts to bring back these chapters before our eyes so
that we can revisit the historical moments of the Jesuits that
touched our lives one way or the other. It is a spiritual feast
and we can relish these precious encountering experiences.

Jesuits are ordinary men who are blessed and chosen by
God to evangelize, touch souls and collaborate with others,
enriching each other’s life. May this spirit and blessing
continue forever.
